I’m basing these dates off when I’m supposed to have class. Now before I get into it let me say that these quotes I have are from a live stream on twitch, a platform that allows people to talk, make music, or play games live while also communicating with whatever followers they have.
On September 1st I on twitch watching a youtuber known as Rockit (real name Russel Mckamey, but I will be referring to him as Rockit, on the left) from Rockit Gaming. Rockit and his partner Vinny Noose (Vincent Newsome, on the right) have numerous songs for video games like Halo or Hello Neighbor, and have new music every Friday.
During the stream I asked Rockit “What are your views about compression on today’s music?”
He Replied “Compression today is used a lot more artistically then it ever has been before… for our generation of music listeners are trained differently on what sound good…”
He goes on to talk about loudness, which has been discussed in class. Then he states “…Compression is used to hear everything at the same level without affecting the rest of it. As listeners we are trained differently in today’s era and we almost need it with the way music is produced.
After sometime (cause he’s in the middle of playing a game) Rockit gives his opinion on whether he thinks compression is good or bad. Saying “I love compression, used in the right way it makes everything sound natural and perfectly balanced, [the key is] it’s to balance it out within the mix!”
I love Rockit Gaming along with the other singers seen down below. They call themselves Nerdcore and make amazing songs, I recommend checking it out. I’m extremely grateful to Rockit for answering my question and giving me the opportunity to look into the mind of a music creator.
Game On!
